Clinton Cross Country beats storm last week
The Clinton High School cross country teams had their most successful meet Tuesday, Oct. 4 in a 2-way meet with Chapman on the CHS campus.
The girls team won the meet, 39-16 (low score wins) with Clinton’s Mareen Vondergeest winning the race with a time of 23.36.
Clinton swept the first four places with Andriana Webb, Kamryn Akins and Chelsea Hill following Vondergeest across the finish line.
Clinton’s Eryka Richard finished sixth, followed by Isabella Bowling, Amy Smith, Isabella Hucks, Susannah Frazier, Audrey Atkinson, Areli Pacheco-Elizondo.
Vondergeest, Webb, Akins, Hill, Richard, Bowling, Smith and Pacheco-Elizondo all set personal bests in the meet.
The boys team finished behind Chapman in the overall all standing, 30-26 with William Scott being the first Red Devil to finish the race, in fourth place with a time of 19.52.
He was followed by Nick Perkins, Billy Hogarth, Tad Ray, Jacob Hawkins, Wyatt McWatters, Griffin Fuller, Josh Bryant, David Wilkie and Bradley Frazier being the Top 10 Red Devils.
All the top Clinton runners, with the exception of Frazier, set personal bests in the race.
The Oct. 6 meet at Palmetto High School in Williamston was postponed because of all the schedule changes at Clinton High brought about by Hurricane Matthew.
