Game ball run is today
Today, at 4:30 pm, cross-country runners from Clinton and Laurens District High Schools will gather at Laurens Middle School to begin the game ball run for Friday’s Clinton-Laurens varsity football game.
The Clinton and Laurens JV football teams are playing at LMS this evening (6 pm kickoff).
The cross-country runners will transport the game ball to The Depot in uptown Clinton for a presentation about 6:45 pm. This is the first Clinton-Laurens game ball run, and Friday for a 7:30 pm kickoff at Wilder Stadium, it will be the first season-opening rivalry game in the long history of Red Devil and Raiders cross-county rivalry football.
Cheerleaders, coaches and runners from both schools are invited to assemble at LMS for a pre-run photo. Then, the LDHS cross-country team will carry the game ball to Holly Grove Church Road, to hand off to the Clinton High cross-country runners.
Law enforcement escorts and a team bus will caravan the runners to uptown Clinton.
CHS runners are expected to cross the Broad Street railroad tracks about 6:45.
They will be followed in by Laurens runners, both schools’ cheerleaders and school flags. District 56 Superintendent Dr. David O’Shields will receive the game ball, and invite everyone to Friday night’s game.
The Presbyterian College Welcome Back for freshmen and P1s in the Pharmacy School begins in uptown Clinton at 6 pm. PC cheerleaders, pep band, students, faculty and staff will be at The Depot area when the game ball arrives. The public also is welcome to watch the game ball arrive.
The pep rally will end at 7 pm.
Then, the Swingin’ Medallions begin performing for the final Town Rhythms concert of Summer 2016. Free to the public, the concert will wrap up about 10 pm. Anyone attending the concert is urged to bring a lawn chair, as public seating will be limited.
